Tiger Tea doesn’t get as much publicity as it should for the quality of drinks they serve. Maybe it’s because the boba shop itself is located in the middle of nowhere of Burlingame, CA in a tiny, unassuming plaza. It’s pretty hard to discover this place unless you’re already shopping around the plaza or someone tells you about it.
I was introduced to Tiger Tea through a basketball buddy of mine. We were talking about boba and how I like to review boba places on my blog, and he asked if I had tried a place called Tiger Tea. After a quick Yelp search, the reviews and pictures looked promising so I decided to make a trip and give it a shot.
Shoutout to my basketball buddy because Tiger Tea has been one of my top 3 boba places.
The interior of Tiger Tea is very minimalistic and clean. There are a couple of Tiger Tea and boba-related artwork hung around the shop. I find their multi-panel tiger painting in the bathroom pretty awesome (yes, I’m serious). They also have a ton of IKEA plants neatly placed around the establishment. Maybe it’s the inner hipster inside me, but I’m a sucker for IKEA plants. Putting one in any room gives the place personality, and it’s probably why I like hanging out at Tiger Tea.
The seating area gives me the vibe of being in a Starbucks. The wooden furniture and dim lighting provide a nice, relaxing atmosphere. There’s always good music playing in the background so it can get a bit lively but not too loud that it becomes distracting. It’s the perfect place to catch up with an old friend or get some work done.
The customer service here is always on point. Their staff members are always friendly and patient with the customers. Even if they’re experiencing a rush, they always provide awesome customer service. There have been quite a few times when new customers don’t remember to get their orders after their number has been called. When this happens, a staff member always makes the effort to locate the customer and kindly inform them that their order is ready. I rarely see this kind of top-notch service at any establishment, let alone a boba shop.
The boba is always good here. I can’t remember a time when I had mediocre boba from Tiger Tea. It always has a nice sweetness and chewiness that you hope for in a boba drink.
As for the milk tea, I’d say it’s comparable to the famed Boba Guys. If I had to choose between having milk tea from Tiger Tea or Boba Guys, I’d actually go with the former because it’s close to having a balanced taste. It leans a little more on the milky side, but not to the point of being overpowering. That’s exactly how I like my milk tea made.
If you’re like me and only strive to drink top-tier boba, Tiger Tea should be on the top of your list. They provide world-class customer service, serve delicious milk tea with boba, and has a nice venue. In short, Tiger Tea is the golden standard of boba.
The only downside of Tiger Tea is that they’re located quite far from any notable destinations. But for great boba, it’s definitely worth making the trip.
