Top 5 Wedding Registry Gifts We Use the Most

Lifestyle

As my then fiance (now wife) and I were creating our wedding registry, we had a hard time deciding what we would need once we moved in together. We consulted our married friends and numerous online guides to narrow down the necessary items for married life, but it was still tough to know whether we’d actually use everything we requested.

My wife and I have been married for three months, and we’ve made use of most of the registry gifts. Some have been used more than others due to practicality, but all the gifts have been helpful in our marriage one way or another.

Here are the top 5 wedding registry gifts that we use the most:

5. Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Signature 8-Piece Cutlery Set

Knife Set

I was told that a good knife set could make a huge difference when prepping a meal. Prior to marriage, I used a cheap chef’s knife to do everything, like cutting, slicing, and trimming. It didn’t cut well and would dull rather quickly, but that’s what I had to deal with as a broke college student. That’s why a cutlery set was one of the first items to make it onto the wedding registry.

I can confirm that the advice of having a good knife set is true because the Zwilling J.A. Henckels Twin Signature 8-Piece Cutlery Set has been a real game-changer. From the initial use, the difference can definitely be felt between my cheap chef’s knife from college and chef’s knife from the cutlery set, specifically the sharpness. We’ve been using the knife for over three months and we still haven’t needed to sharpen it. I think that in itself speaks volumes about the quality of this knife set.

4. OontZ Angle 3 Portable Bluetooth Speaker

Oontz Bluetooth Speaker

I’m the type of person that needs to listen to music whenever I do anything around the house. The speakers of my iPhone used to be my equipment of choice, but ever since I received the OontZ Angle 3, I’ve been using that as my go-to speaker.

The speaker is very lightweight and can be brought around anywhere. It’s small – about the size of a slim soda can – so I can place it on any flat surface without taking up much room. I usually keep it in the bathroom for when I shower, but I also use it in the kitchen for when I do my cooking.

The sound quality from the Angle 3 is great. It can play loud music without losing much of the quality. It’s not going to replace loudspeakers, but it’s enough for a living room or a small open gathering.

3. Crock-Pot 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker

Crockpot Slow Cooker

A lot of work and time goes into marriage, which means less free time for myself. In order to squeeze out more time for myself, I try to save time from doing other things, like cooking. That’s why I like to use the Crock-Pot Slow Cooker to do most of my cooking – it saves so much work and time!

Aside from prepping the ingredients, all that’s left to do is to combine them in the slow cooker and set the cooking time. I like to prep the ingredients the night before and put them in the slow cooker in the morning before I head out to work. The recipes I use recommend ~8 hours of cooking so it’d usually be done by the time I get home. The result is a tasty meal with minimal time and effort required!

2. BLACK+DECKER 1.7L Electric Kettle

Black+Decker Electric Kettle

My wife and I love to drink hot water at night. It’s something we take comfort in when the weather’s cold or when we want to wind down before we sleep. When we are craving hot water, we know it’ll only take a couple of minutes to boil because of our BLACK+DECKER Electric Kettle.

(Note: There’s actually a newer model of our kettle that’s cordless (and cheaper!) so I’ll include the link here.)

The electric kettle is very simple and easy to use. I just fill up the kettle and place it on the kettle platform. With a flip of the switch, I’ll have boiling water in a matter of minutes. The cool thing about the electric kettle is that once the water is boiling, it will turn itself off. This sure beats running to a screaming stovetop kettle and turning off the fire. I can just come back to the electric kettle whenever I want.

1. Gift Cards

No matter how many times we revised our wedding registry, we knew we wouldn’t be able to know exactly what we need until we actually start living together. Thank goodness for gift cards because it allowed us to purchase these necessary items during the first few weeks of our marriage.

It’s best to request gift cards for other retailers in case your favorite retailer doesn’t have everything you need. On our registry, we requested Macy’s gift cards for our kitchen needs and Amazon gift cards for everything else. Start thinking about where you frequently shop, as those retailers are where you want your gift cards from.

UPDATE: We’ve used all the gifts from our wedding registry at least once, but the items listed here are the ones we’ve used the most. We are appreciative and thankful for all the gifts, even those that weren’t listed in this post, because they’ve made our lives easier in some way. So thank you to those who contributed to our wedding registry!
